In order to better understand what information we collect, here is a short description of how image processing is done when you use PopFaces. The app does the following image processing:
-
Takes an image from a screen by the front camera
-
Detects all the faces in the image
-
Extracts facial patches (images, containing faces, no biomentrics data)
-
Calculates vectors, describing face images (aka descriptors or embeddings) for the detected faces, using our DNN (Deep Neural Network) The embeddings calculation act as hashing and are non-reversible (doesn’t allow to restore the initial face image)
-
Removes images (including the facial patches) from RAM, so that no real facial image meets any person data
-
Compares the embeddings to the ones presented in the database to find the closest one
-
Removes the vectors the from memory (RAM) right after comparisons are done
Therefore, no face images of the indentified celebrities are stored anywhere but in the RAM during the comparing processing. No real face images are kept after the hash-like embeddings were calculated. We only collect information as stated below. This information is being used for analytical purposes.
